You may think you can not make a dramatic design statement with a small double bed. However, you can actually exploit its dimensions through the use of a header to create a striking focal point or turn your bed in a rest area. To contrast the small size of your bed, use a large headboard. Incorporate a padded upholstered twin headboard on a fancy color, or a giant mosaic mural landscape or illustrations.
If you have two double beds in the same room, consider pulling these two focal points along with one giant headboard in the middle of the two of them. This offers an alternative to the bunks. Use a headboard that turns your bed into a sofa too. If you are limited in space, you can add a DIY upholstered twin headboard made of thick foam rectangle folded in half, sealed and covered with a cloth you recorded.
Several of these pads are aligned along the long side of the bed which is pushed against the wall. Two pads are attached to each end of the bed. It has double armrests and upholstered twin headboard / foot. A simple sheet altered to hug the corners of the bed creates the illusion of an upholstered sofa cushions and matching. The back cushions are removed to bedtime.
