How to Treat Butcher Block Table Countertops

Butcher block table does not only great for dining table area but also countertops’ addition. We have some ways to DIY treatment on the table tops. The original butcher block table was a solid wood slab where butchers cut the meat pieces. The modern butcher block countertops are made of blocks or strips of wood bonded together with glue under heat and pressure to create a single slab of wood that can withstand years of heavy wear food preparation and still look good.

Cleaning and disinfection

Clean countertops butcher block table with oil treated scraping food particles with a spatula and then washing with a damp kitchen soaked in water and detergent. Rinse the cloth and clean the surface again. Disinfect after cleaning by applying a bleach solution consisting of 1 tsp. bleach in 1 quart (1 L) of water. Check or sprayed onto the surface and let it air dry.

Using the block

You must not cut raw meat or poultry directly on the surface of the butcher block table. To avoid contamination, place a plastic cutting board on the wood, and cut raw meat on it. You can cut the cooked meat and raw or cooked vegetables directly on the butcher block. But wood surfaces can become be profoundly damaged by knife marks, making it difficult to clean and disinfect. If this is a problem, sand the top and again treated with mineral oil.
